A renovation project for a shop in the Huashan 1914 Creative Park of the brand ‘Xiaoqi’, which operates restaurants and general stores in Taiwan.
Huashan 1914 Creative Park is a commercial and cultural complex on the site of a former Japanese colonial-era liquor factory in Zhongzheng District, Taipei, which houses restaurants, art galleries, shops and performance spaces.
The client requested more seating in the restaurant, more display shelves in the general shop and to keep costs as low as possible.
The previous shop had lost its overall design due to the refurbishment and shelf expansion that had been carried out since its opening, and we thought that the overall design could be reconstructed by structuring the space with white, wood, stainless steel and black glass materials, as in other ‘Xiaoqi’ shops and restaurants. The new overall design was designed to create a contrast with the derelict feel of the existing building's common areas, so as to create an attraction from the outside to the inside.
The kitchen and staff room wall were kept existing, and half of the shop's display stands were reused from the previous shop, which enabled the overall cost to be kept down.
