Design Development
Interior design of member lounge installed in shopping mall in Shenzhen, China. Unlike other architecture, shopping mall is the prime example of commercial architecture, requires considerable commercial design. In Shenzhen close to Hong Kong, Hong Kong based interior design tends to be widely accepted, and gorgeous decorative design is preferred. There was also strong demand for decorative design from the shopping mall as the owner. Proposal of Japanese static space was strongly criticized, it was necessary to reflect the opinions of the management team, the design process was extremely difficult.
I tried to create a space to sit so that people could be buried on the surface of the curved surface while overlapping the surfaces with soft curves like wooden rings. Initially, aimed for a series of space that each person can be buried in the wall which provides high level privacy. but, it turn to be more like sofas integrated with the curve wall in an open space according to the client request. Still the lounge surrounded by this organic shape wood gently heals people who are tired of shopping.
