Conceptual Design Phase
A renovation project for café and roaster for GLIN COFFEE run by an old friend. The site is located in the KURAZUKURI district, which is a preservation district for traditional buildings in Kawagoe city. The city’s symbolic bell tower is around corner.
Curiously, an existing wooden one-story building is attached to the back of a steel –framed three-story building.
In order to improve the seismic performance of existing building, we will remove some floors on the 2nd and 3rd floor to reduce the building load, and the newly created void visualize the close section of the one-story building stuck into the three-story building.
The main façade of the building will have a large opening with variety of window, which integrates with furniture. It smoothly connects the inside of the store and the storefront and opens it to the neighboring community in KURAZUKURI.
